#SherlockLives

At last Sherlock is back on our screens, after 2 years since the end of the last series. This much anticipated series began with offering the audience many different explanations to how Sherlock faked his own death- but I'm still not sure which one was correct! The hour and a half episode was filled with mystery, comedy and a wealth of familiar faces from the previous series. I'd give it a 10/10- well worth the 2 year wait. However we will have to savour the moment whilst we can, as this series is again only 3 episodes long. But they are one and a half hour episodes- that's near enough three films! #SherlockLives

John Lewis- You've done it again

So it's that time of year when John Lewis brings out a fantastic and mesmerising TV advert that knocks all of the others out the water, and this year isn't any different! The 2013 edition is an animation telling the story of a Bear who always misses Christmas, due to hibernation (or lack of sleep), and so his friend 'the Hare' buys him an alarm clock so he can join in the festivities with all the other woodland animals.

The advert begins with the phrase "There was once an animal who had never seen Christmas". It then proceeds to tell us of the warm friendship between the Bear and the Hare throughout the year and leading up to Christmas. However the Bear becomes tired and sleepy, retreating to a cave to sleep. However the Hare brings him an alarm clock as a gift so he doesn't miss the big day! The advert ends with "Give someone a Christmas they'll never forget". Although it may sound a peculiar storyline, the beautiful 2D animation along with Lily Allen's (Cooper's) cover of 'Somewhere only we know', makes it the advert to beat all adverts this winter.

My Plunge into the World of Radio

This week I produced my first radio show on Commercial Radio- and I absolutely loved it! I hadn't really entertained the idea of radio before last week, but the opportunity was there- so I jumped.

The station I'm working at is based in an old Portakabin in the local councils carpark. I get the impression that this is where most community stations are based, as quite frankly they can't afford anything else! The station is run almost entirely by volunteers which means that everyone you meet loves to be there. Although it's nothing glamorous, it's a little gem.

Going live on air gave me the biggest thrill. Admittedly my heart was going a trillion mph just as the adverts had finished- but i managed to pull myself together when the adrenaline kicked in! Producing the show live means that it is my responsibility to adjust the running order if and when it needs to be. Obviously this happened on the first show, but I think I did a fairly decent job of shuffling things round so we were back on track! Roll on next week!

Our "Bake Off" Mad Nation

So it's nearly the end of yet another fantastic series of GBBO! Every man, woman and living organism across the Isles has caught the Bake Off fever- and I'm sure no one wants to let it go. Year on year the quality of the bakes increase but so does the comedy of the contestants! I'm pretty sure Mel and Sue must be carrying out undercover comedy lessons. Soggy bottoms, creme pat and the custard thief have kept us all entertained for the past how many weeks but sadly it is coming to a close. With only the 3 Musketeers left.. Ruby, Frances and Kimberly, grab your Kenwood whisks and Lakeland rolling pins as it's time... READY.. SET.. BAKE!

The Beginning

blog.. blog.. blog.. blog.. so I'm Sam, a TV and Radio Student from Manchester. I've never really blogged before but thought I'd give it a go since I've supposedly surrounded myself in every aspect of media.. except the good 'old' blog. (the term 'old' is used very loosely in this case)
